About Us

Incorporated in 1941, The Jefferson County Housing Authority provides safe and sanitary housing for qualified, low-income persons residing in the Jefferson County, Alabama area. The Housing Authority is a public corporation duly organized and validly existing under the provisions of the Code of Alabama 1975, Title 24, CH 1, Article 3 governed by a five-member Board of Commissioners, each appointed to their position by a member of the Jefferson County, Alabama Board of Commissioners.

PRIMARY OPERATIONS
The United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) as outlined under the United States Housing Act of 1937 and subsequent amendments, has a direct responsibility for administering low-income housing programs in the United States. As such, the Housing Authority has entered into various annual contracts (“ACC”) with HUD to provide significant funding for the Housing Authority’s various housing programs.
